Member of Parliament, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Vidyut Baran Mahato organized a detailed meeting with Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) CMD Kancham Anand Rao and senior management to push for the revival of closed mines, commissioning of new Uranium projects, and reopening of the Musabani Uranium recovery plant. The meeting lasted nearly two hours at the UCIL headquarters in Jaduguda.

Uranium Grade Check and Mine Decisions
UCIL officials informed that mining at Dhobni, Kishangarhia, and Pathargoda would resume only if uranium grade is found above 150 PPM. If the grade is lower, UCIL will issue a no-objection certificate to Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) to restart copper mining. The MP has been raising this demand for years and has met the Union Mines Minister several times to expedite reopening of these mines.

Musabani Plant and New Exploration Plans
UCIL agreed in principle to restart the Musabani Uranium recovery plant to prevent loss of Uranium from Copper concentrator tailings. Mahato also pressed for opening new Uranium mines around Kaniyaluka in Ghatshila, saying it would boost local employment and development in the region. UCIL management assured that the process will begin soon after necessary surveys and approvals.

CSR, Road Repair and Worker Concerns
The MP also raised the issue of the dilapidated Musabani to Bagjata road, reminding that Rs. 4.5 Crores had been sanctioned earlier under CSR but work stopped midway after the contractor abandoned the project. UCIL promised to restart the roadwork. Mahato further sought more CSR efforts, including deep borewells for drinking water and construction of additional classrooms in tribal schools. Meanwhile, discontent among former contract workers at the Jaduguda Constable Training Centre was also conveyed, with workers alleging they have been jobless for nine months despite outsourcing tenders being finalised.
