Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran has been conferred the prestigious Foundation Fellowship by Oxford University’s Somerville College. This is the college’s highest honour, given for his pivotal role in making the Ratan Tata Building a reality, a project aimed at strengthening academic ties between India and Oxford.

Ceremony Marked by Prominent Presence
The felicitation ceremony was organised at Oxford, with Vice-Chancellor Prof Irene Tracey, Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami, and UK Prime Minister’s special advisor Varun Chandra among those present. The event marked the formal recognition of Chandrasekaran’s contribution to philanthropy and education. The fellowship, college officials said, establishes a lifelong bond between Oxford and the recipient.

Ratan Tata Building is A Symbol of Partnership
The Ratan Tata Building, which will now serve as the permanent home of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, was made possible through Tata’s support. The center has been leading research on global and Indian issues of sustainability since 2013, providing policy insights on pressing environmental and social challenges.

Tribute to Values and Leadership
Somerville College Principal Catherine Riall described Chandrasekaran as a “shining proof of talent and hard work,” adding that the fellowship also recognises Tata Group’s enduring partnership with the university. Responding to the honour, Chandrasekaran said that the college’s mission resonates deeply with Tata Group’s values and with the inspiration drawn from Ratan Tata himself. “I believe this partnership will only grow stronger and enable us to collectively address the world’s most critical social and environmental questions,” he added.
