Jharkhand CS Alka Tiwari May Get Six-Month Extension, Centre’s Nod Awaited
Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, set to retire on 30th September, may receive a six-month extension if the Centre approves. If denied, the State may consider ACS Avinash Kumar or ACS Health A.K. Singh for the post. Other CS-rank officers include Shailesh Kumar Singh, currently posted in Delhi, and Dr. Nitin Madan Kulkarni, serving as Governor’s ACS.
Jharkhand Secretariat to Remain Closed for Six Days from 26th Sept
Jharkhand Secretariat and attached offices will remain closed for six consecutive days from 27th September to 2nd October 2 due to weekends and Durga Puja holidays (Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, Dashami). Offices reopen on 3rd October, but close again on October 4–5 for weekend holidays. Many employees taking 3rd October off will enjoy an extended nine-day break.
Suspended IAS Officer Vinay Choubey Seeks Bail in Hazaribag Land Scam Case
Suspended IAS officer and former Hazaribag deputy commissioner Vinay Choubey filed a bail plea in Jharkhand High Court in a case registered by the ACB over illegal sale of sewayat land. Choubey, in custody since 20th May, already has bail in a liquor scam case after no charge-sheet was filed on time. Hearing on bail is awaited.
Coal India Workers to Get Record Rs. 1.03 Lakh Bonus, Payment Today
Coal India’s management and unions agreed to a record Durga Puja bonus of Rs. 1.03 lakh for over 2.23 lakh non-executive employees, including 72,000 in Jharkhand. The payout, Rs. 9,250 higher than last year, totals nearly Rs. 2,000 crores and will be credited today. Contract workers will receive 8.33% bonus by Diwali under the Contract Labour Act.
Jharkhand HC to Hear PIL on Hill Demolition, Deforestation on 30th October
Jharkhand High Court will hear PILs on hill demolition and deforestation on 30th October after SEIAA secretary sought more time to appear. Petitioners allege illegal tree felling and hill cutting without approvals, causing environmental damage. The court earlier questioned SEIAA’s activity and field inspections, noting contradictions in affidavits filed by the authority and the State Government.
Jharkhand HC Seeks Government Reply on Collapsed Bridges, Next Hearing on 6th Nov
Jharkhand High Court asked the State Government and Rural Development Department to explain frequent bridge collapses across districts, including four in Jamtara and several in Khunti. The court issued notice to Chief Engineer Virendra Ram, directing a reply before the November 6 hearing. The PIL alleges poor construction quality, lack of inspection, and financial irregularities in bridge projects.
Jharkhand HC Slams Govt Over Poor Plastic Ban Enforcement, Seeks Detailed Affidavit
Jharkhand High Court, led by Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, criticized poor enforcement of the 2017 plastic ban, citing weak monitoring, corruption, and lack of awareness. Main Accused Vinay Singh Arrested in Hazaribagh Land Scam
The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Vinay Kumar Singh, director of Nexgen, in the multi-crore Hazaribagh land scam for fraudulently restoring five canceled plots from 2013. IAS officer Vinay Kumar Chaubey, already jailed, is also named accused. Authorities allege both conspired with officials to illegally claim Government forest land. Singh’s arrest is expected to reveal further details of the scam.
Work Begins on 220 kV Double Circuit Transmission Lines from Tenughat to Hazaribagh, Gomia
Construction of 220 kV double circuit transmission lines from Tenughat Thermal Power Station to Hazaribagh and Gomia has started with a formal ceremony led by GM R.L. Paswan. These lines will connect new grid substations, strengthening Jharkhand’s power transmission network. Electricity from PVUNL, Patratu will reach TTPS and be distributed through these lines to Ramgarh, Barhi, Chandan Kiyari and nearby areas.

IT Probe Reveals Shell Companies Created Using Poor People’s Documents for Rs. 500 Cr Political Fund Scam
Income Tax Department found that a Gujarat-based political party created shell companies using poor people’s documents for Rs. 10,000 each, routed Rs. 500 crore through them, and withdrew cash. Around 40,000 young professionals donated Rs. 1,200 crore to evade taxes under Sections 80GGB/80GGC. Investigators found no evidence of real political activity and no supporting bills for claimed Rs. 700 crore expenses.
Finance Minister Slams Palamu Banks for Poor CSR Spending, Warns of Action
Jharkhand Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore criticized Palamu banks for low credit disbursal and negligible CSR spending, noting SBI spent just Rs. 11 lakh while others reported zero. He warned the government may withdraw deposits from non-performing banks. With deposits exceeding Rs. 9,000 crore but a CD ratio of only 41%, Kishore urged banks to meet the 50% benchmark to spur local growth.
