India’s Industrial Output Rises 4% in August, Mining and Power Lead Growth
India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew 4% in August 2025, up from 3.5% in July. Mining surged 6%, manufacturing rose 3.8%, and electricity output expanded 4.1%, driving overall growth. The IIP stood at 151.7 points compared to 145.8 a year earlier, signaling stronger momentum in core sectors and renewed optimism for the economy.
Jharkhand formed 5-minister panel to examine Saranda wildlife sanctuary proposal
Jharkhand has formed a five-member panel, led by Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, to examine notifying 575.19 sq km of Saranda forest as a wildlife sanctuary. Members Deepak Birua, Chama Linda, Sanjay Prasad Yadav and Dipika Pandey Singh will assess impacts on tribal livelihoods and submit recommendations. This follows a Supreme Court directive; the Chief Secretary must appear on 8th October.
Over 4,500 Statutory Posts Vacant in Coal India, Safety at Risk
Coal India faces a critical manpower shortage with more than 4,500 statutory posts, including Overmen, Mining Sirdars, Electrical Supervisors, and Surveyors, lying vacant across subsidiaries. Despite repeated directives from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), no new recruitment was advertised in FY 2025-26. A tripartite committee has been formed to review vacancies, as shortages increasingly threaten mine safety.
Jharkhand Sets 10th Oct Deadline for Sand Ghat Auctions Amid Court Stay
Jharkhand’s mining department has directed all 24 districts to complete the auction of 444 sand ghats by 10th October. While bidding concluded in 15 districts, nine districts including Chatra, Dumka, and Deoghar required re-tenders as traders hesitated due to court restrictions. The High Court has halted allotments until PESA rules are notified, with NGT imposing a ban till October 15.
CPI (Maoist) Calls October 15 Shutdown in Five States
The banned CPI (Maoist) has announced a shutdown on October 15 across Jharkhand, Bihar, North Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Assam, following a “Resistance Week” from 8th to 14th October. The outfit alleged that its leaders were killed in fake encounters by security forces in recent months. In protest, it vowed to intensify agitation against police actions and detentions.
Probe Ordered After Molten Metal Mishap Injures 3 at Bokaro Steel Plant
Three contract workers sustained serious burn injuries after molten metal spilled during transfer operations at Bokaro Steel Plant’s SMS-2 unit on Sunday. They were admitted to intensive care at Bokaro General Hospital. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha and senior BSL officials visited the injured. BSL has initiated an internal probe, formed a high-level inquiry committee, and assured enhanced safety measures.
Final Voter List Released for Ghatshila Bypoll, 2.55 Lakh Electors Enrolled
The East Singhbhum administration published the final electoral roll for the Ghatshila (ST) assembly bypoll, necessitated by the death of minister Ramdas Soren in August. The roll lists 2,55,823 voters, including 1,24,899 males, 1,30,921 females, and three third-gender electors. It also added 2,890 first-time voters. Sahara Moves SC to Sell 88 Properties to Adani for Investor Refunds
Sahara Group has petitioned the Supreme Court seeking approval to sell over 88 properties, including Aamby Valley and Sahara City, to Adani Properties. The sale aims to raise Rs. 8,030 crore still required in the SEBI-Sahara refund account. Sahara has already deposited Rs. 16,000 crore. The plea will be heard on 14th October 2025, for investor repayment clearance.
Tata Steel, Dutch Govt Sign Joint Letter for Low-Carbon Steel Transition
Tata Steel and the Government of the Netherlands signed a non-binding Joint Letter of Intent for the first phase of low-CO2 steel production at Tata Steel Nederland’s IJmuiden site. The framework aims to reduce emissions and improve living conditions around the plant. Both sides will negotiate a final agreement post-elections, with Tata Steel’s board to take the investment decision.
ACB Seals Nexgen Showrooms in Hazaribagh and Gumla in Liquor Scam Probe
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sealed Mahindra Nexgen showrooms in Hazaribagh and Gumla during the second day of raids linked to the liquor scam. Officials seized hard disks, financial records, and downloaded data from computers. Employees were questioned and barred from leaving during the operation. The showrooms were sealed under case RC 09/2025, with investigations still ongoing.
Jharkhand HC Stays Order on Attached Assets in Jamshedpur GST Scam
The Jharkhand High Court has stayed adjudicating authority proceedings on the attached assets of businessman Vicky Bhalotia alias Amit Agarwal in the Rs. 800 crore Jamshedpur GST scam. The court noted the PMLA authority lacks full quorum, with only one member instead of three. The scam, involving fake invoices worth Rs. 14,325 crore, caused massive revenue losses.
Driver Masterminded Firing on Indukuri VP in Munidih, Says Police
Police revealed that driver Sanjay Rai masterminded the firing on Indukuri Mining Pvt Ltd’s Associate VP, C. Gopal Reddy, in Munidih. Rai allegedly conspired with accomplices to create fear, extort money, and secure jobs forcibly. He drove Reddy’s car during the 26th September attack and later took him to hospital. Arrested after probe, he has been sent to jail.
Assistant Manager of Floating Solar Project Dies by Suicide in Koderma
In Koderma’s Jhumritilaiya, 34-year-old Assistant Manager Vishwaranjan Das of Star Link & Wilson, working on the DVC floating solar energy project at Tilaiya Dam, died by suicide late Sunday night. A native of Odisha, he was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented house at Naresh Nagar. Police have begun investigation after being informed by colleagues.
