Jharkhand High Court Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of Coal Washery Water Pollution
The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of a letter highlighting pollution caused by coal washeries discharging contaminated water into rivers. The bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad converted the letter by Manoj Kumar into a PIL and sought responses from the State Government, Pollution Control Board, and CCL officials. Hearing is set for 6th November.

Centre Receives Jharkhand Assembly’s Recommendation to Confer Bharat Ratna on Shibu Soren
The Union Home Ministry has received Jharkhand Assembly’s recommendation to award former Chief Minister Shibu Soren the Bharat Ratna posthumously. RTI activist Surendra Pandey obtained confirmation that the proposal is now being forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office. Between 15th August and 8th September 2025, the ministry received seven such recommendations. The ministry, however, withheld the Assembly’s letter citing RTI provisions.
Reliance Power CFO Arrested by ED in Rs. 68 Crore Fake Bank Guarantee Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Reliance Power’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ashok Pal in connection with a Rs. 68 crore fake bank guarantee case. Officials said Pal was taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after questioning on Friday night. He was produced before a magistrate on Saturday and remanded to two days of ED custody.
