Fourteen members of the Jharkhand Police, including senior officers of IG and DIG rank, have been honoured with the Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Award 2025 for successfully conducting anti-Maoist operations in the State earlier this year. The award, issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, recognises operations carried out between 12th January and 4th April, which resulted in the liberation of Jhumra and Lugu Hills in Bokaro, and Parasnath Hills in Giridih regions that had served as major Maoist hideouts for decades.

IGs, DIGs, SPs and Constables Among Awardees
Those awarded include IGs Amol Venukant Homkar and Michel Raj, DIGs Indrajeet Mahtha and Surendra Kumar Jha, along with SP Manoj Swargiya, Deputy Commandant Mithilesh Kumar, and several field-level officers and jawans. The operations marked a major breakthrough in Jharkhand’s fight against Extremism, with security forces reclaiming territories that were once inaccessible due to Maoist dominance. Officials said the success came after a series of well-coordinated, intelligence-backed missions involving police and paramilitary units.

Recognition Seen as Motivation for Security Forces
Speaking on the recognition, DIG Michel Raj said the award would “inspire us and others to perform their duties better.” Security officials noted that reclaiming these zones has not only reduced Maoist influence but also opened up space for development projects and civilian movement. Analysts say the honour signals the Centre’s continued push to acknowledge state police contributions in high-risk operations, especially in regions where the Maoist presence has been deeply rooted for years.
