The NTPC Group added another major thermal unit to its portfolio on Tuesday after the first 800 MW unit of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PUVNL) Supercritical Thermal Power Project (STPP), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited in Jharkhand was declared commercially operational. The commissioning will come into effect at midnight on 5th November 2025, taking the group’s total installed and commercial capacity to 84849 MW.

Mandatory Disclosure Under SEBI Regulations
The announcement was made through an official stock exchange filing in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The communication, signed by Executive Director (Finance) Aditya Dar, confirmed the COD (Commercial Operation Date) of Unit-1 and notified the capacity addition to the exchanges.
Next Units Expected in Stages
The remaining two units of 800 MW each under Phase-I are at advanced stages of construction and are expected to be commissioned sequentially over the next few quarters, expanding the total capacity of the Patratu STPP to 2,400 MW. Phase-II of the project is expected to follow after Phase-I achieves full commercial status.
