Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta resigned late Tuesday night following the Union Home Ministry’s objection to his appointment, calling it “not in accordance with rules.” Gupta, a 1990-batch IPS officer, was first made acting DGP in July 2024 and confirmed in February 2025, with tenure until 2027. His exit has reopened the race for the top post, with senior IPS officers Prashant Singh and M.S. Bhatia emerging as frontrunners.
Jharkhand Becomes Power Surplus State as PVUNL Starts 800 MW Commercial Generation at Patratu
Jharkhand achieved a major milestone in power self-reliance as PVUNL’s first 800 MW ultra-supercritical unit at Patratu began commercial generation on Wednesday. Under the JV agreement between JBVNL and NTPC, 85% of the power — about 680 MW — will be supplied to Jharkhand, strengthening its grid. The plant uses air-cooled condenser technology to reduce water use and 100% dry-ash disposal for eco-friendly operations.
Rs. 21 Lakh Crore Needed for Jharkhand’s Coal-Free Economy by 2070
A new report commissioned by Jharkhand’s Just Transition Task Force says the state will require $256 billion (Rs. 21 lakh crore) to shift away from coal by 2070, as India moves toward net-zero emissions. Supreme Court Ordered Jharkhand to Fill Vacant Posts Within 45 Days
Expressing concern over long-pending appointments in Central and State Information Commissions, the Supreme Court has directed the Jharkhand Chief Secretary to complete the selection process for vacant posts within 45 days and file a compliance affidavit, warning of action for non-compliance. The court also issued similar directions to other states. CBI Court to Proceed Against 10 Accused in Rs. 5.33 Crore Bank of India Loan Fraud Case
A CBI special court in Ranchi has taken cognizance of charges against 10 accused, including three Bank of India officials, in a Rs. 5.33 crore loan scam involving fake credit sanctions between 2018 and 2020. The case invokes IPC sections 120B and 420 along with Prevention of Corruption Act provisions. The court has issued summons for 28th November. The fraud came to light after a complaint by the bank’s AGM.
ED Summons JSCA President Ajay Nath Shahdeo in Stadium Construction Irregularities Probe
The Enforcement Directorate has issued a notice to JSCA president Ajay Nath Shahdeo, asking him to appear on 11th November with documents related to alleged financial irregularities in the construction of the Ranchi cricket stadium. The project’s cost reportedly rose from Rs. 80 crore to nearly Rs. 200 crore. The matter was earlier probed by police, but ED reopened the case in 2022 under a money-laundering inquiry.
Clash Erupted in Palamu Over Stone Mining Project, Six Policemen Injured
Tension flared in Rewaratu village under Lesliganj police station, Palamu, when villagers resisted the start of a stone mining operation on Wednesday. As police arrived to facilitate work, locals armed with sticks, axes and stones attacked them, injuring at least six personnel, including an ASI and JAP jawans. Eleven people, including nine women, have been detained, and two injured policemen are undergoing treatment.
Four BGR Staff Freed After 7-Hour Hostage Standoff in Barkagaon
Three officials and a driver of BGR Company, held hostage for seven hours by protesting villagers in Gondalpura, were released late Tuesday night following police intervention. BGR has lodged an FIR accusing villagers of abduction and assault, while residents of Badam village have filed a counter-case alleging they were also beaten by company supporters. Police have registered two separate cases, naming 15 people and 200–300 unidentified villagers, with investigations underway.
Villagers to Hold Maha Panchayat on 7th November Against Coal Block Project in Barkagaon
Residents of several villages in Barkagaon, including Sandh, Harli, Bishrampur and Badam, will hold a Maha Panchayat on 7th November at Harli High School to oppose the proposed coal block project. Local leaders said a strong agitation will be launched against coal companies. The preparatory meeting was chaired by Kartik Mahato and attended by former village heads, social leaders, farmers and legal representatives.
Land Mafia Tighten Grip on Public Property in Keredari, Villagers Launch Strong Protest
Villagers in several Keredari panchayats of Hazaribagh have intensified protests against alleged land mafia encroaching on public property, including school grounds, forest land, cremation sites and market areas. Locals from Sayal, Beltu, Bundu, Bhadai Khap and Joko accuse influential groups of securing illegal land records and grabbing community land. Despite repeated complaints, action has been slow. The Circle Officer has assured that encroachments will be removed soon.
