Bokaro Steel Plant has introduced Technological Painting, an advanced coating system designed to increase the life span of steel structures exposed to heat, dust, chemical fumes and humidity. The initiative is expected to improve plant reliability while keeping maintenance costs under control.

Modern Coating to Combat Corrosion
The new system replaces conventional paintwork with high performance coatings such as Epoxy, Polyurethane, Zinc-rich, Acrylic PU Interthane and Aluminium based formulations. These coatings act as long-term corrosion barriers for pipelines, storage tanks, machinery and support structures, ensuring safer operations and uninterrupted production cycles in a hostile industrial environment.
Apart from strengthening structural protection, the new coating method reduces the frequency of repainting and scheduled shutdowns, resulting in lower maintenance expenses. Bokaro Steel Plant has also opted for low-VOC and water-based coatings, aligning with its environmental commitments by reducing solvent emissions and workplace pollution.
Automation, Quality Control and Improved Workplace Culture
The process involves hydrojet and solvent cleaning, followed by airless spray application for precision coating. Mandatory checks such as WFT and DFT measurements, carried out as per SSPC–PA-2 and IPSS standards and adhesion tests ensure uniform protection and longer service life. The plant has also introduced colour coded painting across operational zones, improving safety visibility and workplace discipline while adding to the aesthetic appeal of the facility.
