Ranchi based public sector engineering and consultancy firm MECON Limited has secured a major assignment from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for the expansion of the Bhilai Steel Plant. The two organisations have signed an agreement under which MECON will provide Design and Engineering Consultancy Services (DECS) and Project Management Consultancy Services (PMCS) for the plant’s 3.44 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity expansion project.

MECON to Oversee Design, Engineering and Execution
As part of the contract, MECON will be responsible for project planning, engineering design, technical consultancy, execution monitoring and overall project management. The consultancy firm will also oversee implementation to help ensure that the expansion project progresses within the planned schedule and in line with technical requirements.

Expansion Expected to Support India’s Steel Growth
The capacity expansion of Bhilai Steel Plant is expected to increase steel production and contribute to the country’s growing infrastructure requirements. Industry observers view the contract as another recognition of MECON’s long standing expertise in delivering engineering consultancy and project management services for large scale projects in the steel, mining, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Contract Strengthened MECON’s Order Book
According to information released by the company, the agreement marks a new phase of collaboration between MECON and SAIL. Besides strengthening MECON’s order book, the project is expected to enhance the company’s presence in upcoming industrial expansion programmes. Both organisations will work together to complete the project within the stipulated timeline by combining engineering expertise with modern project management practices.
