The second phase of the Godda–Pirpainti rail project gathered momentum on Monday with the start of compensation payments to landowners in Mahagama, Meherma and Boarijor blocks. A special camp was organised at the Mahagama Circle Office, where officials from the District Land Acquisition Office completed the required formalities for eligible beneficiaries. The project is regarded as one of the key railway infrastructure initiatives in Godda district.

Land Acquisition Process Entered a New Stage
District Land Acquisition Officer Om Prakash Yadav, along with officials of the land acquisition department, supervised the compensation process at the camp. On the first day, bond papers and related documents were collected from 140 of the 257 landowners of Khuthari village in Mahagama. The district administration is working to complete the remaining land acquisition formalities so that construction activities can move ahead without delay.
Track Laying Planned Beyond Mahagama
The second phase of the project involves extending the railway line from Mahagama towards Pirpainti. Officials said the land acquisition process is being carried out on priority to facilitate track laying in the next stage. Meanwhile, work on laying railway tracks between Godda and Mahagama has already started, with construction materials reaching several project locations.

Project Expected to Improve Regional Connectivity
The Godda–Pirpainti rail project is expected to strengthen rail connectivity across the district and improve access to neighbouring regions. Residents of Mahagama have been awaiting rail services for years, and the progress in land acquisition has raised expectations that the project will move ahead at a faster pace. The compensation camp was organised after prior intimation to affected landowners, ensuring that the process could begin in an orderly manner.
