Public sector coal mining giant Coal India Limited (CIL) has been fined Rs. 10.72 lakh by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) for failing to comply with SEBI’s corporate governance norms. The penalty pertains to the June quarter, during which the company did not have the required number of independent directors on its board. Coal India Limited (CIL) recorded 280.14 million tonnes of production in the first five months of the ongoing financial year, falling short of its target of 322.07 million tonnes. Coal dispatch during April to August stood at 299.73 million tonnes against the target of 360.13 million tonnes. According to provisional data, several subsidiaries reported lower-than-target production. BCCL produced 13.62 MT against 18.81 MT, CCL 25.06 MT against 37.46 MT, and SECL 61.91 MT against 77.29 MT. A 54-year-old canteen supervisor died today at the Koderma Thermal Power Station (KTPS), Banjhedih, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. The deceased, identified as Vivekanand Singh, a resident of Samastipur in Bihar, collapsed while preparing for routine morning prayers at the plant canteen. According to workers present at the spot, Singh complained of chest pain and fell on the ground before he could be attended. Fellow employees attempted to revive him but failed. After making gold hallmarking mandatory, the Centre has introduced hallmarking for silver ornaments from 1st September 2025. The decision aims to provide purity assurance to buyers and bring transparency in the silver jewellery market, which has so far remained largely unregulated. BIS Issued HUID Code Unlike gold, silver hallmarking will not be compulsory initially. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued six purity standards for silver jewellery, 800, 835, 900, 925, 970 and 990.
