A worker died in an accident at Shivam Iron & Steel Plant in Udnabad, Giridih, Jharkhand. The deceased, identified as Mukesh Verma alias Lalu (25), was engaged in routine work at the factory’s opencast unit when the mishap occurred. Despite attempts by fellow workers and factory staff to rescue him, he died on the spot.
Soon after the incident, family members and a large number of villagers gathered at the factory gate. The crowd raised allegations of negligence against the management and staged an angry protest. They demanded immediate compensation and a permanent job for a dependent family member. The situation turned tense, prompting the police from Muffasil police station to reach the site and initiate talks between the two sides.

Allegations of Poor Safety and Legal Violations
Locals alleged that the plant management had repeatedly ignored labour safety norms, resulting in frequent accidents. They accused the factory of violating labour laws and failing to ensure proper protective measures for workers. “Lives of labourers are being put at risk due to lack of safety arrangements,” villagers said, demanding strict Government action.
