A major accident occurred in the early hours of Friday when a 100-feet-high silo plant at BCCL’s New Madhuban Washery in Bagmara, Dhanbad, crashed down with a loud noise. The incident took place around 1 AM when most employees were off duty, averted a major tragedy. However, one worker is suspected to be trapped under the debris as rescue operations continue.
Worker Feared Trapped, Rescue Team Deployed
According to eyewitnesses, Dharmendra Kumar, an employee of Radha Engineering, which operates the washery, is feared trapped inside Silo No. 3. Rescue teams are using drone cameras to monitor the situation and have summoned a heavy-duty air service crane from Bokaro to speed up the operation. Locals reported that the collapse shook the area, forcing workers and nearby residents to rush to safety.

Management and Locals at Odds
BCCL Washery Division GM Sohail Iqbal confirmed the collapse but stated that no worker is trapped, sparking outrage among locals and trade union leaders. They have questioned the management’s handling of the incident and raised doubts over the safety protocols in place.
Political Reactions and Demand for Action
Baghmara MLA Shatrughan Mahato, who reached the site along with union leaders, blamed Radha Engineering Pvt. Ltd. for negligence. He alleged that substandard construction material was used in the washery, which became operational only 18 months ago. The MLA demanded strict action against the contractor and called for a thorough probe into the quality of construction and safety standards.
