Panic started at Bansjoda Colliery under BCCL Area-05 on Tuesday after a fire broke out at the CHP transformer house. Thick smoke and flames rising from the unit forced workers to stop operations immediately. Senior officials of BCCL rushed to the spot, and fire brigade teams were called in.

Fire Contained After Hours of Effort
It took fire fighters several hours to douse the blaze completely and bring the situation under control. During this period, work at the coal handling plant and production activity remained completely suspended. Officials are assessing the extent of damage caused to the transformer house before resuming operations.

Bihar Colliery Kamgar Union general secretary Manas Kumar Chatterjee alleged negligence in safety standards and demanded a high-level inquiry. He also sought strict action against officials found responsible. Workers on site said such fire incidents have been occurring repeatedly, affecting output and putting lives at risk.
Call for Safety Measures
Union leaders and employees urged the management to strengthen fire safety systems at the colliery to prevent recurrence. They stressed that regular maintenance and monitoring are crucial to ensure the safety of workers and uninterrupted production.
